An opportunity for Westchester residents to protect the environment, support local nonprofit organizations, and recycle a variety of household items. Part of Westchester County's Household Recycling Drop Off Days 2018.

Donations to Local Nonprofit Organizations

From beds to bicycles, please see the list below for participating organizations. 

ORGANIZATIONS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE DONATIONS. IF YOU WOULDN'T SHARE IT WITH A FRIEND, PLEASE DON'T BRING IT!

Items That Don't Qualify for Regular Curbside Recycling

Fire extinguishers, propane tanks (up to 20 pounds), batteries*, car tires (max. 4), mercury thermometers and thermostats, expired or unused pharmaceuticals.

* Alkaline and carbon-zinc batteries can be safely discarded with household trash.

Personal and Confidential Papers for Shredding

The Westchester County Mobile Shredder will be present  to accept your documents. Up to four file-sized (10”x12”x15”) boxes of papers per household. Please remove large binder clips.

E-Waste and Electronics

Computer monitors, towers, peripherals, printers, TVs, faxes, radios, stereos, speakers, VCRs etc.

Household Chemicals

Must be properly labeled! Including: most automotive fluids, flammable liquids, metal/jewelry polishes, pesticides, herbicides, photography and swimming pool chemicals.

Appliances with Freon

Freezers, refrigerators, dehumidifiers, air conditioners etc.

Furniture Sharehouse

DONATE: GENTLY-USED FURNITURE SUCH AS SOFAS, ARMCHAIRS, TABLES, DRESSERS, ETC. PLEASE CHECK THE LINK BELOW FOR EXACT DONATION GUIDELINES!


Furniture Sharehouse provides free furniture to economically disadvantaged individuals and families living in Westchester County, giving them the basic household furnishings that enable them to rebuild their lives and live with dignity. Please click the button below for exact donation guidelines.

DONATE: COLLEGE SUPPLIES (GENTLY-USED DORM ROOM ESSENTIALS, NEW SCHOOL SUPPLIES)


The Guidance Center of Westchester offers essential and lasting support to those challenged by mental illness, substance abuse, poverty, and homelessness. We empower our participants to become active members of their community through education, treatment, housing, and rehabilitative and vocational services.

Operation Prom

DONATE: TUXEDOS AND FORMAL DRESSES APPROPRIATE FOR TEENAGE GIRLS GOING TO PROM, BOTH FREE OF EXCESSIVE STAINS/DAMAGE; EVENING JEWELRY, EVENING BAGS -- NO SHOES!


Established in 2005, Operation PROM helps low-income students attend their Proms by providing free Prom dresses and tuxedos. Operation PROM provides resources, opportunity and mentoring to at-risk teens, those who are homeless, sick, or disabled.

WHAT'S NOT ACCEPTED:

ANYTHING THAT YOU CAN PUT IN YOUR REGULAR RECYCLING (GLASS, PAPER, PLASTIC, CANS)


PAINT - Oil & Latex; harden paint and put it out with the trash 

MOTOR OIL - take to a service station or motor oil retail outlet

COMPRESSED GAS CYLINDERS - helium and oxygen tanks

SMOKE & FIRE DETECTORS - dispose of in trash

EXPLOSIVES - flares, fireworks, ammunition

MEDICAL WASTE - hypodermic needles, syringes, lancets

CELL PHONES, PHONES, OR PLASTIC BAGS

CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS

PLEASE NOTE

The Household Material Recovery Facility (H-MRF) in Valhalla accepts household hazardous waste and other items worthy of special handling from Westchester County residents on a year-round, appointment-only basis.
