Items That Don't Qualify for Regular Curbside Recycling

Fire extinguishers, propane tanks (up to 20 pounds), batteries*, car tires (max. 4), mercury thermometers and thermostats, expired or unused pharmaceuticals.

* Alkaline and carbon-zinc batteries can be safely discarded with household trash.

Personal and Confidential Papers for Shredding

The Westchester County Mobile Shredder will be present  to accept your documents. Up to four file-sized (10”x12”x15”) boxes of papers per household. Please remove large binder clips.

E-Waste and Electronics

Diaper Bank

DONATE: ALL SIZES, TYPES, AND BRANDS OF DIAPERS - NEWBORN TO TODDLER (WE ESPECIALLY NEED LARGER SIZES 4, 5, AND 6). OPEN PACKAGES GLADLY ACCEPTED. NO ADULT DIAPERS PLEASE!


Diaper Need is a silent crisis, with parents and caregivers often forced to choose between food, rent, or buying diapers. For this reason, the Junior League of Central Westchester (JLCW) created  the Westchester County Diaper Bank in partnership with the Westchester County Executive’s office and the Westchester County Department of Social Services. The Diaper Bank provides diapers at no cost as temporary assistance to families in need in Westchester County.

Furniture Sharehouse

Furniture Sharehouse provides free furniture to economically disadvantaged individuals and families living in Westchester County, giving them the basic household furnishings that enable them to rebuild their lives and live with dignity. Please click the button below for exact donation guidelines.

Guidance Center of Westchester

The Guidance Center of Westchester offers essential and lasting support to those challenged by mental illness, substance abuse, poverty, and homelessness. We empower our participants to become active members of their community through education, treatment, housing, and rehabilitative and vocational services.

Mt. Vernon Animal Shelter

DONATE: WET/DRY DOG AND CAT FOOD (OPENED BAGS GLADLY ACCEPTED), TREATS, HAMSTER AND RABBIT BEDDING (OPEN BAGS GLADLY ACCEPTED), TOYS, SHEETS, BLANKETS AND TOWELS, CLEANING SUPPLIES


The Mount Vernon Center for Animal Care, founded in 1974 is a municipal shelter that serves as a safe haven for thousands of domestic animals who are lost, abandoned, neglected, unwanted or in distress. We are a small shelter, but our caring staff and volunteers work tirelessly to improve the lives of resident animals and those within the city of Mt. Vernon.

We actively promote both adoptions and fostering, and welcome volunteers.

Rye Kicks It Forward was founded by Rye High School students who recognized the need for used soccer gear in poor communities around the world. Contributions are gratefully accepted!

Rye City Lions Club

DONATE: USED PRESCPIPTION EYEGLASSES 

(PLEASE PLACE GLASSES IN A CASE OR WRAP THEM CAREFULLY TO AVOID DAMAGE)


Refractive errors can be easily corrected with eyeglasses, yet millions living in low and middle income countries lack access to basic eye care services. Lions have recognized the urgent need for corrective lenses and collect usable glasses in their communities to support the Lions Recycle For Sight Program.

The Sharing Shelf

DONATE: NEW AND GENTLY-USED CHILDREN'S AND TEEN CLOTHING, OUTERWEAR AND FOOTWEAR APPROPRIATE FOR FALL/WINTER SEASON (FREE OF STAINS, RIPS, OR TEARS)

NO ADULT CLOTHING PLEASE!


Over 10% of children in Westchester are living in poverty.  For many low-income families, new clothing is a luxury they can rarely afford. The Sharing Shelf was founded to meet this need. As Westchester’s clothing bank for children, we collect and distribute new and gently used clothing in sizes from newborn through XXL, for children and teens from infancy through age 19.

WHAT'S NOT ACCEPTED:

ANYTHING THAT YOU CAN PUT IN YOUR REGULAR RECYCLING (GLASS, PAPER, PLASTIC, CANS)


PAINT - Oil & Latex; harden paint and put it out with the trash 

MOTOR OIL - take to a service station or motor oil retail outlet

COMPRESSED GAS CYLINDERS - helium and oxygen tanks

SMOKE & FIRE DETECTORS - dispose of in trash

EXPLOSIVES - flares, fireworks, ammunition

MEDICAL WASTE - hypodermic needles, syringes, lancets

CELL PHONES, PHONES, OR PLASTIC BAGS

CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS

PLEASE NOTE

The Household Material Recovery Facility (H-MRF) in Valhalla accepts household hazardous waste and other items worthy of special handling from Westchester County residents on a year-round, appointment-only basis.
